Aconex selected for NZ$500 million Auckland rail project
Aconex has been selected by New Zealand rail operator ONTRACK to provide its online collaboration system to the NZ$500 million (US$283m) project to electrify Auckland’s metro rail system.
Due for completion in 2013, the project will be the most significant redevelopment of the rail network in New Zealand since the 1980s. It will involve the construction of a new signaling system, new overhead lines and electric power supply system, various enabling works and the purchase of new electric rolling stock. The project is a significant step towards building a modern, sustainable passenger transport system for Auckland. Aconex will provide ONTRACK and its project partners with a web-based platform for managing information such as drawings, documents and correspondence.
Murray Hood, Project Director at ONTRACK, said: “As a major rail infrastructure development, this project will involve a large number of local government and private sector participants that will need to receive the right information at the right time. Aconex will provide the entire project team with a central system for managing documentation and correspondence so that, at any time, participants and stakeholders can view, distribute, and track their information in real-time.”
Hood added: “By providing a common platform for information management across all the sub-developments, ONTRACK will be able to ensure a complete, documented picture of the wider Auckland Electrification Project is available for our future operational and maintenance purposes.”
ONTRACK, www.ontrack.govt.nz, a division of the KiwiRail Group (New Zealand Railways Corporation), owns and manages New Zealand's rail network on behalf of the Government, maintaining 4,000kms of railway track, bridges and tunnels.
