Melbourne PPP school developments on schedule with Aconex
Contractor Abigroup has selected Aconex for the AU$190 million Partnerships Victoria in Schools (PViS) programme – a PPP development that involves the design, construction, finance and management of eleven new schools in Melbourne’s main growth corridors.
Five schools are due for completion by December 2009 (Phase 1) and a further six schools due to open in 2011 (Phase 2). By using Aconex, Abigroup and its project partners will be able to view, track, distribute and approve their information in real-time, helping to meet the compressed schedule.
David Keele, Site Administrator and Document Controller at Abigroup, said: “When a document comes in, being able to review it and then send it off to a consultant in minutes is highly beneficial. At any time, I can see what has been sent to each party and what has been registered and when. Unlike with hard copy or email, we have confidence that all information that is sent is going to be received.”
Over the first nine months of the project, Aconex has been used by 440 people from 150 organisations to manage, store and share more than 30,000 documents and correspondence items each month.
“Because we have five developments, we receive five lots of data, so we need a centralised system where we can manage information at both a programme and school level. Typically we receive transmittals from consultants and need to send it out to site engineers, so that they can then send them on to their team of subcontractors.
“Having a centralised database of important information, that is accessible to all Abigroup employees on the project, cuts the need for a central distributor who may or may not have the time to assist. Aconex has proven to be a good investment to date,” added Keele.
Abigroup, www.abigroup.com, is a major Australian engineering and building construction group with a commitment to delivering high quality projects. The company has built a reputation as being a leading multi-service construction firm with extensive expertise in design, construction and management.
