Aconex selected to streamline delivery of Europe’s largest onshore wind farm

Aconex has been selected to service the development of Europe’s largest onshore wind farm. The web-based system will be used to manage communication and documentation across the project.

When completed, the wind farm, developed in the Dobrogea region of Romania, near villages Fantanele, Cogealac and Gradina, will have a capacity of 600 MW and be the largest onshore wind farm in Europe.

With offices across the world, Continental Wind Partners (CWP) focuses on the development of wind farms in Europe, North America and Australia.

CWP is managing the project’s construction and its partner, investor and beneficiary of the wind farm is the CEZ Group, one of the largest energy supplier and producer in Europe. CEZ Group’s investment in the project is expected to total €1.1 billion (US$1.8bn), the largest foreign direct investment in Romania's history.

Due to the scale and complexity of the project, CWP identified that, over the project’s lifecycle, thousands of documents and correspondences that would need to be shared, tracked, and archived.

Adin Pilcer, Technical Director at CWP, said the following about the use of the system: “The implementation was very easy, I was involved in the first meeting to develop the functionalities and then Aconex looked after all staff training without needing any more involvement from me.”

“I moved from Romania to the UK at the end of the first stage of the project and, due to Aconex, I can still easily access, review and approve documents regardless of my location.”

“Before the project started, we knew that it would be possible to waste time and money as a result of information loss, disputes over variations, and defects caused by outdated documents. Because of this, we identified that it was essential to have an audit trail of all document and correspondence transactions. With Aconex, each participant is accountable for what they’ve uploaded and shared, which definitely saves us time and provides peace of mind.”
