Aconex to support Abu Dhabi’s $1.9bn South Shamkha Infrastructure Development

Aconex has been selected by the Abu Dhabi General Services Company, “Musanada” to service the development of the AED 7 billion (US$1.9bn) mega national housing infrastructure project, South Shamkha in Abu Dhabi.

The web-based Aconex system will be used by all project stakeholders including Musanada, PMC, supervisory consultants and contractors to effectively manage the large volume of documentation and correspondence. By using Aconex, stakeholders will be able to access, distribute, track and archive the information in real time using a central, secure platform.

With an estimated completion date of July 2014, the South Shamkha Development will cover an area of 4,000 hectares and provide housing for more than 125,000 people. The scope of works includes building 402km of road works, 430km of sewerage networks including pumping stations, and 460km of potable water networks.

Remarking on awarding Aconex the contract, Mona Al Qubaisi, Building Projects Director at Musanada, said: “The delivery of South Shamkha is expected to take three years and will involve hundreds of participants, therefore Musanada is extremely diligent in picking the right partner who will be able to deliver on time and on budget the world’s best services to the Abu Dhabi Government. Aconex was chosen for their exceptional track record in information-related challenges, and we are certain their expertise will dramatically affect the response time of the project team and the mega project itself.”

Hervé Hamelin, Aconex General Manager EMEA, said: “Because Aconex is neutral of any project member, all companies retain full ownership over the information they’ve created. This creates a level playing field where no party has more control over the other. We continuously see that this drives high adoption and usage, and facilitates open collaboration between companies.”

From its 43 offices worldwide, including five in the Middle East, Aconex services US$260 billion worth of projects in 70 countries.

Mr. Hamelin added, “After seven years of operating in the Middle East, we continue to see strong uptake of our solution on projects large and small across the region. We’re proud that some of the region’s most high-profile developments have been built using our system, including Abu Dhabi’s $40 billion Yas Island, Dubai Metro and Dubai Sports City.”
