Portugal’s Foz Tua hydroelectric project to be built using Aconex

Aconex, the world’s largest provider of online collaboration solutions to the construction and engineering industries, has been selected to service the Foz Tua hydroelectric plant project. The web-based Aconex platform will be used to manage information and link the organizations involved in the project.

The Hydroelectric plant, being delivered by the Mota-Engil/Somague/MSF ACE, will be located at Tua River. The project involves the construction of two reversal power units which will have a total power of 259 MW and an annual net production of 275 GWh.The operator is Energias de Portugal’s (EDP), Portugal’s largest industrial group and one of Europe’s major energy firms.

Construction of the Foz Tua hydroelectric plant involves a large project team that’s expected to exchange hundreds of thousands of documents and correspondence items. By using Aconex, all project participants will be able to access, distribute, track and archive their information in real time using a secure, central platform.

Hortas Pita, the Construction ACE General Manager, said: “EDP’s tender included the procurement of an information management system. After assessing several systems, we selected Aconex due to the company’s support model and its experience delivering similar projects.”

Mr Pita added, “Our ACE is based across Portugal and a large team of engineers and consultants will be engaged. Aconex has the ability to provide local training and support to all users to ensure we’re quickly up and running.”

David Correia, Aconex Sales Manager Portugal, said: “Particularly on complex projects such as Foz Tua, efficient information management and multi-company communication is crucial to a project’s success. By enabling the construction ACE and EDP to streamline and track the flow of information, Aconex will improve productivity and reduce the risk of delays and disputes.”
