New York City Hall Reconstruction

Dating from 1803, New York’s landmark City Hall is state and national landmark building of great historical significance, and home to the New York City Mayor’s Office and New York City Council. The New York City Hall Reconstruction project includes more than $100M in structural and cosmetic repair to interior and exterior, and the addition of a sub-cellar for use by the City Council.

As the “CM Build” construction manager for the New York City Hall Reconstruction project, Hill International of Marlton, NJ chose Aconex to drive collaboration and document management efficiencies across a team of 20 project parties.

“Security and the flexibility to move documents quickly and get answers rapidly were top reasons for our decision.”

How Aconex helped

Michael Brothers, Hill International, said: “The time savings on this project has been enormous. We’ve gone from taking five to 14 days to turnaround some documents to being able to turn them around in a couple of hours. And the documents are always fully available. It’s just a quick search instead of trying to figure out if we stored it and where. This is serious future risk mitigation.”

Hill has also found that in addition to improved communication and collaboration, along with a reduction in errors and redundant work effort, the project is benefitting from:

  • 66 percent less time spent searching for project documents when requested by another team member
  • 80 percent fewer administration hours spent collecting, copying and transmitting project records
  • 40 percent faster RFI response times than on projects not using Aconex
